pvc roof rack
First, let me say I think it's an interesting idea, and I love to do things that most people say won't work just to see if I can prove them wrong. Second, let me say that I find it interesting that no one has brought up the thermal expansion of PVC pipe. It does expand quite a bit in the heat. That brings me to my third comment. Water, I believe, would slow down the temperature change that occurs in the pipe, so that idea is pretty cool. The only problem would be once you've used the water up it might heat up and start to sag or bow.
Have you noticed any distortion in warm weather? I don't know if it has gotten hot enough where you are to happen yet, but around here in July and Aug it gets over 100 degrees for most of the day.
Side note, has anyone used wood to build a rack? It must have been done before I'm sure, right?

People may be a little harsh in the way their opinion cones across, but the fact is, plastic is weaker than metal. While its a cool project, you still have to be careful not to throw your bags up there. After a while the PVC will crack if your not careful.
I admire your build, but I disagree with the materials used.
Hopefully this won't get me a 'vacation'.

I actually was complimenting you. I think it is a great idea. As for my fenders, I did them the way I want. It's my Jeep and I'll do as I see fit. It doesnt make much sense to get upset when people talk s**t about your rack and then turn around and talk s**h to someone else. Do as I say, not as I do I guess.
that guy didnt build the rack, i did lol
