I hadn't noticed that. I'll have to look for that this summer, but honestly it doesn't matter to me too much. I can always re-install the ball under the hood if I find it annoying. Thanks for the info.

thanks guys. this helps a lot. I'm gonna try to mount the vacuum ball by the battery. I think I have some room there. as for the horns, I might just keep them where they are in order to avoid problems.

I had a problem when I took off the end caps. I drove into a deep puddle and power steering went out. it came back in a few seconds but it is still concerning. I figured there is a loose connection somewhere, but I wouldn't know where to look. thoughts and help?

You're jeep may have died. Then cranked itself back up. Happened with mine alot this past summer, although mine is a 5 speed. Would just die while in gear for like 2 sec then crank itself back up with the momentum of the jeep since it was already in gear.. The belt slipping suggested sounds more likely to be your problem tho lol

Mounted 1,000 Watt Xantrex power inverter, underneath passenger seat.

Plug a standard 3 prong extension cable into one of the outlets and run it under the carpet towards the rear passenger panel in the cargo area

Measure 3 plug outlet to be used

Cut hole in rear passenger cargo area panel

Plug extension cord into the 3 plug outlet, press outlet into the hole (hole was undercut in order to be a snug fit.)

And there ya have it, 3 outlets in the rear cargo area, and still one available under the passenger seat. I'm thinking about doing another outlet in the dash somewhere. I've ran everything from work lights, to grinders, to drills. I also keep a long 3 outlet extension cord under the rear seat for extended range usage.
I love this idea! I got the things to do this today. This weekend I will be installing!

OK I already have a good set up for the laptop in the XJ, I can use my android phone as a mobile hotspot for 4g speeds where available but am stuck to 3g otherwise.... 3g is great for web surfing but sucks for dloading and other higher bandwidth required functions.... SO I took my computer set up to a new level.....

First I took an old "g" wireless linksys router and had to flash or hack a new firmware into it..... This allows it to "repeat" and internet signal. So instead of broadcasting a signal, the router takes in other wireless signals and repeats them.... So anything you plug into one of those 4 ports in the back will have internet.

Then I mounted it to the stock tire mount hook with small bungees to make it removable.

JustbigLinksys.jpg?t=1300197763

I fired it up, connected to a signal over 100 yards away on another street and was getting 5mb of net speed!

Then I decided to take another old wireless "G" router I had and connect it to one of the ports in the back of the ugly blue router..... Now what this does is take the internet and gives me the ability to turn it into my own wireless signal with a separate IP address.

I have the repeating router set to connect to whatever unsecured signal in the area is strongest, this ensures I am getting the fastest internet possible at any given moment.

The antennas on the repeating router are high gain 11 dbi antennas..... This gives it much better range than the lousy 4 dbi stock antennas that it came with. The second router has its original stock antenna since Im not to concerned with broadcasting a huge signal.

here it is finished...

I am laid off at the moment, until springs arrival.

Normally

I am a bridge and roadway inspector, the truth is that I really don't need much internet in the field. All this connectivity is purely for my and my coworkers enjoyment while we sit for hours in our vehicles watching other people work. I can watch dvd's and dowloaded movies too.... Some times I will not be required to get out of my vehicle for up to 4-5 hours at a time.

Everyone else is jealous as hell at my set up when they are sitting on their asses doing nothing. Now anyone who parks near me can share my signal.
