So in a related question to all that have done back bumpers already...
I noticed that while the drivers side has the big fuel tube running through it, only the passenger side has that weird "lump" on the bottom of the rail. How did you folks get over the bump with tubing? The fuel thing really doesn't give you much choice but to hack away a lot of the rectangle tubing so it can fit under it either.

Just finished this one up. i was going for a high, slim but strong setup. I like the smaller look cause it shows a little more tire under it and makes it seem higher. Hope you guys like it its made from 5x2x 3/16 and 2x2x 3/16 box tubing some 1/4 inch plate for mounts and the gussets then finally some Heavy duty lifting lugs 1/2 inch thick, used for the huge tanks that sit outside of gas stations along with giant oil separators.. i figured they would be plenty for a little ol jeep lol. i also went with a slanted look when welding them up. I thought it went with my gussets and makes hooking up a little more convenient to get straps and hooks on. Hope ya like it guys

I kinda figured it out as I went today. My drivers side isn't as nicely contoured as yours d50 but I'm only using a 4" angle grinder, no band saw here. For the passenger side I just cut the area where the bumpy thing is. From what I can tell its there so the final tail pipe hanger can bolt into it. And just before it is sort of a domed hole that seems to have no purpose either. When I was looking at the factory nut strips (that surprisingly survived!) there is a step up in that area. I just cut that part out of the tubing. Also cut the top, forward portion of the tubing out as well since I wasn't sure if it would have to go in at an angle to get over the humps. Seems to be working ok so far. Got it all cut out (both sides x2 for both Jeeps bumpers) and all the holes hopefully drilled. Not the most exciting aspect of building a bumper but I'm hoping tomorrow will be more visually interesting. At least after I get the nuts burned into the inside of the new stringers.

And Driftunit... The bumper looks good. I do hope your recovery points go all the way through the bumper though? If you just welded them to the surface you will really, REALLY want to change that. They will break loose and become a flying deathOrang to anyone in the way.

Ran outta wire today. Maybe bigger progress next weekend.
And the "salvaged" carrier hings is kinda BIG! Need to figure out how to downsize it.

When The winch comes in I am going to build my Hitch carrier. It will look like a full winch bumper when the winch is on the front. I will also be able to move the winch to the back or take it off for what ever reason. Not amazing but this bumper is the first time that I have ever welded and fabricated anything with metal.
