As I am still only in the "make it run" mode of my beater XJ, I won't get to this for a little while. But I did want to drop a teaser on here for when I start to make my own rear swing out tire carrier bumper...
I'm a really bad scrounger and am always looking for usable things others have tossed out that can be adapted or used for parts to make my stuff cheaper. Sometimes I strike gold here in the recycling center in Germany. Today was one of those days.
Found not one, but TWO of these... anyone wanna guess what they are?
In their present state they are WAY to heavy for anything less than a 3/4 ton full size with 37s or bigger. I'd guess each one by itself weights 80 or 90lbs? And thats not even with a tire! :O
I'll post up or start a build thread once I actually get rolling on this.

Lol... Nope, but as HD as they are you'd think so!
Found them in the recycle dumpster on post. Let me try and find a pic of their original intended purpose...
ok... gonna be lazy and just post a linky.

Technically its from the dumpster.
But your correct, they were previously on a HMMWV. I have no idea why some unit decided to throw these away and since I refuse to let my tax dollars go to waste...
Figured I'd drag them out of the dumpster and see if I can re-purpose them. Honestly, they are WAY to overkill as they are for anything smaller than a HMMWV. Even if you were running 37s on a Jeep you wouldn't need so much overbuilding like these are. Not sure if they are built like that to allow for the truck being air dropped or what? But I'd bet each one weights about 80-100lbs not including the tire! The good thing is they use a super stout spindle assembly and all the rotational points are fitted with zerts to grease them. I plan on looking at them, maybe tearing one apart, and seeing how I can either make it MUCH lighter or just reuse the good parts and scrap the overkill. I'll take pics when I come up with something.
