So in a related question and since I'm going to have to build a new gas tank skid anyway due to the large hole punched in mine... Has anyone ever incorporated the GT skid into their bumper? I'm thinking that if I build the skid and instead of bringing it up to meet the bottom/rear of the Jeep, what if I allowed it to run straight back and join the bumper to act as a long skid? Hard to describe but in essence it would bolt to the bottom of the bumper (for removal of either) with counter sunk fasteners and create a long, angled piece of armor to slide on as I egress an obstacle. Make any sense? lol! Throw me your thoughts and ideas please.

They do... I'm not one that would rely on my own welding getting sufficient penetration to feel comfortable winching with them. Add an angled pull, heavy resistance...whatever and the possibility of a poor weld giving up is not unheard of. I'd rather the metal fail or the Jeep get ripped in half before i create a medieval trebuchet out of it.
Maybe its ok... call me a worry wart....*shrugs* I prefer more overkill in safety and recovery areas than most I suppose??

For instance, I've had one of these

Welded on the top of the front bucket of this

For years without being able to break it. It's skidded a billion trees, It's even held up to "******" pulls with a cable hooked to a dozer.
