Stereo / amp install
I am installing a new head unit and external amp in my 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited. I was wondering if anyone out there could recommend a good spot to install the Kenwood amp. I was thinking of putting it in the rear hatch area, but I'm concerned about the amount of wiring needed for the power / patch cables / speaker wires. Is there a more convenient location up front I'm not immediately aware of? it's a small amp - 40W x 4 - and my power seats will surely not leave sufficient space underneath. Anyone have some experience doing this, and could you please share? TIA Stew

Thanks - appreciate the tip. How difficult is it to wire the thing? What is the best way to hook up a power supply for the amp? Is there a preferred switch on the fuse panel that will work with accessories on and shut off with the ignition turned off?

hook the amp to the radio so that it turns on the amp, most heads have an amp on wire, usually blue. Pull 4ga wire from the battery to power the amp put a 50 or 60amp fuse in line right at the battery.

you could get away with 8gauge for this setup unless he is going to running another amp in the future the 4gauge is a little overkill for a 40by4 amp

yeah good point but if he is only going to use the one amp and not upgrade it will save money and some hassle of running the larger wire. but if you might run another amp defiantly run the 4 gauge now and save the hassle of running it again.
