I have a 98 zj, bought as a theft recovery with no motor/tranny/tcase, the po included a motor/tranny/tcase from a 97 xj, all i have origional from the zj is the 242 case, which is a direct bolt up to the aw4 tranny, other than length/cross member issues, what else can i look forward to running into with putting the 97 xj motor/tranny into my 98 zj(using my stock case) any help greatly apreciated

All the wiring between the 2 vehicles are completely different..

So you will have a wiring nightmare on your hands..

what about at least the engine wiring? the wiring harness was on the xj engine i installed(only put in place so far, nothing hooked up), the origional harnesss was still in the engine compartment, looked the same on close inspection.

Harness MIGHT be the same for both motors.

But the Trans is not compatible with the ZJ computer or wiring..

lol it never ends........bought a tranny,put the xj motor ,zj tranny, zj tcase all in (busy day)then i noticed a big diff between the xj, zj 4.0s.........the fan is under the air cond pump on the side instead of the middle? Im hoping i can put a zj water pump on it and move the fan to the center of the block?
