Default Please help with ground points

I have a 2000 grand cherokee limited 4.7 and I need help with a ground point for an amp. I have fried 2 or 3 already then relized my jeep is on a unibody (or at least I think it is). I have a tried a ground point in the spare tire carrier, the point where the rear hatch latches to the body, and I drilled a hole straight in the floor board under the rear seats no good for any of them. I would go to the seat belt bolts but they have some kind of putty around them and I couldn't get it all off. I was thinking of running a wire through that hole I drilled in the floorboard and bolting the wire straight to the frame but I don't want more than say 5ft of wire for my ground. Is that a good idea? Or does anyone have an better ideas please help.

Did your WJ come with an Amp installed in it from the factory? If it did use the wiring for it, if not it still may have the wiring harness in place for it. They were installed under the rear pass side seat in my 04 WJ at least. If you pick up a FSM from picificcoastmanuals.com for $7.95 in pdf format it will all that info in it for your model yr as for everything else.

Yes I still have that amp installed, I want to install an amp for my 1 sub I got and I need to find a good ground and I don't want to tap into that ground for the OEM amp it is a very small wire.

Being unibody means the whole body is a ground. Any existing bolt should be sufficient for a ground. Are you frying amps or wires? How many amps are you drawing anyway?

I'm pretty sure I'm frying amps because the wires look fine and the power light on all my amps would come on for like half a second then go off and won't come back on

I think you've got something wrong with your input circuitry. You're not blowing supply fuses, are you?

I don't know what I mean exactly. Not being there or knowing your unit it's hard to say, but you shouldn't be blowing the power supply or the amp circuits just by putting 12v into it, UNLESS you're putting 12v into an audio feed or output circuit. Do you have the polarity right?

Yes I checked all of that and I was connecting 4AWG ground wire in the GND spot and 8AWG power wire in the +12v spot and 14AWG speaker wire in the RMT (remote turn on) spot and I was connecting them in that order making sure the ground was secure first l, then all my RCA cables in the correct spots

Okay, I'm going to have to pass on this one. It sounds like you've done everything right, near as I can tell.
