I have the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Lardeo 4x4 AWD version with the 3.6 Penstar engine & have ~59,000 miles. Tranny shifts fine & only do light towing with it. I was shocked to see that there is no dipstick & after much reading have gotten "smart" about how one goes about checking the fluid level (ie: get a long Dorman 917-327 dipstick & measure both temp of tranny fluid & dipstick readings against chart for NAGI WK transmissions). So, my concern is if I go & buy a long dipstick, how do I measure the transmission temp!!. Internet talks about scan tool or making some type of thermocouple to stick down the tranny dipstick.
So I noticed on the dash display scrolling to the vehicle engine specifics, there is a display for transmission temp!! Can I use that reading with the long dipstick & get accurate fill levels If not, any other ideas??
1st Update: I have been monitoring the transmission temp & after about 20 minutes of driving stabilizes out at 167-168 f
2nd Update: I recently completed the transmission fluid & filter change using the dash display for the transmission temp and was able to remotely (probe down the dipstick tube) confirm the actual temp of the fluid as being the same as that displayed on the dash. The Dorman 917-327 dipstick worked great.
