Cool Convert 1988 Cherokee Loredo to Disc Brakes using 2001 Grand Cherokee Loredo parts.

Is is possible to use the parts from my 2001 Grand Cherokee Loredo to convert my 1988 Cherokee Loredo to using disc brakes?

Also, Can I use the lift kit from the 2001 and put the parts on the 1988?

In case you haven't guessed, somebody ran me off the road in my 2001 and I would like to upgrade my old Jeep.

Lift- yes. Rear disc- no. Front discs- yes. There was a thread in the past that sighted the reasons but I forgot them.

EDIT :I misread the post. The lift will not work. Sorry.

Your front WJ springs should work but that's it. 88 uses leafs for the rear. You may also be able to use the rear control arms on the front. Supposed to allow wider front tires and not hit when turning.
The WJ front disk brake swap is a can of worms. You will need a spacer that has to be (or really should be) welded to your knuckles. Your steering will also have to be modified.

Here is a better way to add bigger front discs on your 88.

Your a lucky bas**rd as you already have the much sought after knuckles.

The WJ uses a D35 rear axle with ABS. I have 2 WJ's but they are in storage so I can't tell you if you can adapt the rear disks to your 8.25 Chrysler axle. Unless of course you have a D35 or D44 rear axle already which also came stock on the 88. Wait I just remembered. It will be a D35 or D44. Chrysler didn't put their axle in till after 90.
I had an 89 Laredo and it came stock with the D44 because it was optioned out with a towing package. You may have one too. They are supposed to swap right over without any modifications. You will have to change your e-brake cables. Napa has them. Don't use the Crown ones! Ask me how I know.

You may be able to use the seats from your 01. They are much better than the 88. Trust me!

My 04 WJ "Overland" has a D44a in it not a D35, it has the Up Country, Towing 3.73 gear pkgs. LSD in the D30/D44.

Is that the one with the aluminum center section?

Thanks to you all for your input. It sounds like it's not going to work out so, I think I'll just give it a little lift with bigger tires and maybe a lift kit.
When I'm all done and it's painted, etc. I'll post a photo.

Yes- the "a" represents aluminum.
