New to this forum but to forums overall.
My son picked up a 97 Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 V8 and I think it has the 42RE transmission.
It has occasion to not engage reverse and slips in between forward gears.
I've spent a bit of time looking on Google for definitive answers for alternative transmissions and transfer cases but am lacking any solid solutions.
Other than removing the assembly and having a shop go through and freshen it up are there better alternatives to bolt in without a lot of hair pulling and expletives?
Also interested in any fixes for a dead driver information center.

 

My 98 Grand Cherokee acted like that and the trans needed rebuilt.

But, There is some sort of adjustment inside. It just didn't work on mine.
