I first thought some thing had been caught by the magnet, only there isn't a magnet in the pan and when I got the pan drained,hoo boy!!!!!!

I was changing oil in my VW beetle once...found half a nut in the oil. ignored it.

Chunks of a snap ring that hold one of the clutch assemblies into the housing.

Chances are it's the forward clutch snap ring. It's in the overdrive housing and when it breaks, it doesn't hold the clutch pack tight and allows it to run up against the O/D sprag gears and eventually will start slipping. Check with your local trans shop, but I think this can be fixed without pulling the whole trans out, just the O/D case.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
The fluid when I dropped the pan was in really good condition. I was expecting to find a bunch of sludge and gunk in the pan and valve body but all was pretty clean. I could wipe it off with a rag, no metal shavings or baked on crap other than the snap ring pieces.
