Done and done. No broken trim, no leftovers, and man does it heat up!
I think Dan mentioned this to others but I will say it again. Make note of the order of removal and follow it in exact order on re-install. I made one jump ahead move and it cost me.
One other trick I used which came in handy for the GC was taking pics with my phone of wiring and other spots requiring a good memory. I have a good memory, however there is too much to recall in this process.
I did actually use two of the pics to properly configure wiring, again saving time.
I bagged and tagged trim screws, nuts bolts, etc from each component, and put them in a box. It made putting the puzzle back together a breeze. Well worth the cost of a few zip lock baggies & a sharpie.
I went as far as to label certain trim parts as well just to eliminate guess work on items which look similar (only a couple).
ANother thing I took the time to do was to bring the entire assebly into the house and clean out the core housing and ducting. There was some serious locker room funk & goo inside which I am sure it would have wreaked and been a bummer after all the work. Oh also check out the drain plug. It was partially blocked and you can't get to it once in the firewall.
Once I had the core back in the HVAC unit, the rest went very quick. Roughly 90 minutes to get the inside back together.
I read earlier in the thread not to drop column as it would mess up the air bags. I didn't have any issue, or get any faults when I started it up. Your call.
Thanks Dan for the service manual info. It was a life saver!

So after over $700.00 in a/c repairs, I, too, have been told that the evaporator core needs to be replaced @ around $1300. Has anyone done this themselves? And if so, how labor intensive is it?!!

As said many times, take pics, bag parts, keep a journal of each step. Mine sat for 4 weeks before it went back together. Without the pics and journal it would have been a nightmare. I had the evap, condensor, heater core and radiator cleaned and pressure tested. No leaks, so he says. We did replace the accumulator and o-rings. Still need to add the freon.

About 2 years ago i had my ford wagon in at my favorite repair shop here in south australia i was getting some work done on the air condition unit.
when i went to pick up the car i had to wait a little while until they had finished there final checks anyhow a rep walked in to the office. he began talking to the workshop manager about a new product he was promotting of which could be injected into the a/c gas system & aparently would fix small leaks in the a/c system & in a few days if they were no bigger than a specified size.
then you return with the car the tech checks the leaks fixed & regases to top up the system. i think the whole job at that time was only going to cost $150.00. next time i'm there i'll ask if they went ahead & used this stuff & if it worked. i'll post if its any good.
