I have a 97 jeep grand cherokee limited with the automatic temperature control and I need to know how to get to the blower resistor so I can replace it. Any help?

This video is on a Ram, but it will give you an idea on where it's located and what to look for.

Hey Tony! I've heard it said that when the heater blower resister burns out, it probably means the blower is pulling more amps than it should. What is your input on this? I think if it happens again in a short time, this is true.

This happened in my 97 ZJ, the resistor went back, previous owner replaced the resistor, but never fixed the melted plastic connector on the harness.

I ended up cutting a good one out of a ZJ in the junk yard and repinning them back together.

A few wires I ended up hard wiring together, you could do that too if yours is damaged.

Mine only works on high and the blower squeaks a little when it starts in the bitter cold. I'm thinking I'll need to replace both.

I got to the resistor and swaped it and it fixed my problem. Only advice I have is make sure you have a light, a small mirror, and patience.. I was able to get the closest screw out first and then the second fell out and into the carpet floor so its now lost, I had to get a different screw of the same size that I had laying around my shop.

Was your A/c and heat only working on the high setting? Did this fix it? It might be my problem!

Yes, the blower has 4 speeds, 3 of which go thru the resistor. The high setting goes thru a relay because of the amp draw.

Any day you haven't learned something is a day wasted. My Dad told me this and I figure it's accurate.
