2 Questions
Want to change my front and rear differential fluid. (2000 WJ) Not able to locate the gaskets for said cover's through my standard parts stores here. I have never had much luck using the gasket goop to seal anything. I always make a mess and it doesn't work. I like to use the Indian Head goop to hold a gasket in place while I reassemble. In general I prefer gaskets as it's easier, sealed and I can get back into that area again easier. Anybody have a source of these gaskets that I don't know about?
Also tried using the Cruse Control for the first time the other day. It didn't work. I am not going to sweat this as I don't really need it. Just curious if
anybody knows if it could just be a relay of something. Quick and easy. If there is such a thing. Thanks.

I went to the dealer looking for the same thing and they told me I'd have to buy a cover to get the gasket! The service manager said to just clean it up, make sure it's dry, and use blue RTV silicone on it. That's exactly what I did and haven't had a leak yet. The trick is make sure it's lined up before you place it down and don't slide it around too much.

Do you let it dry? Skim over or put it all together wet? I tried it a few times and it all just squished out.Gave up, went back to gaskets.

DUH! Sorry! I meant be sure the surface is dry before putting the RTV on it. Yes, it will squish out, but it still seals IF the cover is flat around the bolt holes.

FYI If you take it to a dealer at least mine when I bought it and had the fluids changed they had gaskets for both of mine D30/D44 watched them install them.
I bought several gaskets for my XJ to have on hand from Quadratec a few yrs. ago D30/Chy 8.25, but about all the time I just use blue RTV.

I don't take anything to a dealer. I found gaskets for the front and back (30 and 44)

Just as an aside, here's a trick that works great when you need a gasket like this. Cut a brown paper grocery bag to the gasket shape and rub RTV silicone into the paper. Wipe off the excess and let it cure. Instant gasket.

I can't take credit for the trick. My Dad showed me that one before RTV silicone came on the market. He used paintable Permatex, but that stuff was hard to get off your hands.

Oh, I agree, but grocery bags are free, unless you consider what you put in it at the store.
