Default Trouble Pumping Gas in a '99 Grand Cherokee

Hello,

This is my first post and I hope this is the right place to ask such a question. I have a '99 Grand Cherokee, I've had the vehicle for only a few months (my first Jeep). I've noticed that pumping fuel requires me to turn the pump slightly counter clock wise, and I also have to push down on the pump for the fuel to pump, other wise the pump locks up after a second or two.

Is this a common problem with Jeeps of this age, or is this something I should have checked out? Thoughts?

Thanks

This is a common problem with high volume gas pumps. You sometimes get fuel bubbling up the pipe or splashing against the side of the pipe and tripping the nozzle's safety. The anti-rollover valve doesn't help vent air either. It's just something you'll have to live with, I'm afraid.

I have found with my 04 WJ that if you just insert the nozzle into the filler neck and run the fuel at the slower fill slot it will do just fine at 90+% of the stations.

I just tried this the other day and it fueled fine without having to angle the pump. I probably never would have thought of trying this in a million years.
