Wow now I need to see ur build in person to really appreciate it. I love it tho, lots of info I can use when I do my rear axle swap. But how did the 35 and 30 hold up with those 35's? And how hard did u wheel it?

Btw we need a meet n greet or a run soon!

i can say though (through experience) that a hack & tap doesn't weaken the shaft as i broke my shaft no where near the drilled & tapped section
Yep I paid
400 for mine ( with shaft ) but I love it, hated doing it, but love it ha ha
Also I broke about 4 lock ring plyers before using needle nose... Sucked

well thanks just_jeepin, ur's looks pretty capable as well! the 30 is still up front (it's the high pinion, so it's marginally stronger than the low pinion 30) the d35 held up alright, i took it on the cajun jeep jamboree and wheeled with it a bit, but it was open.

here are some links of how it was wheeled

my sister is driving in those

and here is when i broke the shaft at the texas spur jamboree

2nd jeep to attempt, only one to break

i hear those shafts are stonger though (better material) and i may end up rebuilding the one i broke with a short shaft sye, so i will probably call on your expertise at that point

Default flowmaster

so since i bashed up the exhaust (and it was on it's last leg anyways), i went to the local auto store & picked up a flowmaster to give it a little bit of a better sound, gave it a few tacks to hold it in place

Nice wheelin! The day I take this thing on rocks is the day I have my first heart attack I'd be soooooo wussy on those trying not to scuff my tire tread lol. But thanks for the info also got one more noob question, I got a d30 on my 2000 sport but not sure how to differentiate between hp and lp

Ha ha sounds good I just loved doing mine, but a vary short shaft will require a new tail housing with a CPU for the speedo

pretty sure if it's a 2k then you have the HP vs the LP. here is a photo of a HP

the pinion sits higher than the centerline of the axle (well ring gear, but axle as well). below that photo is a photo of a low pinion (sits below the axle center line)

yeah, they sell some expensive kits for that, but if ima rebuild it, maybe i should try and get it right (a shorter shaft will be harder to break than the long shaft). since i have the 231 in right now, i won't be pressing to rebuild the 242 (or if i cant find a short shaft kit for the 242, then rebuild it stock and short shaft the 231). this way i can take my time on it and make sure it is strong!

dana 30's are still good front axles, a lot better than the d35's, and they can be built nicely to handle 35" tires, get a higher spline alloy shaft and your set to go
