Couple years ago, I actually asked the inspector at the gas station across the street from my work. I told him I was thinking of going long arms and asked if he would still pass my jeep. I told him that it will have joints on one end. And I asked him about my track bar with a heim on it. He said they are a part of suspension system and he wouldn't care about it. But if it was on the steering system, it depend on how well it was built too.

yeah I was thinking perhaps not DOT approved. But I think I know a guy or two who failed. Either they went to retail garages or they didn't built it right lol

I just installed a winch and also need a new battery I'm going to do some research before I buy one I've heard Odyssey pretty good. what little research I found you need 650 cold cranking amps or higher and preferably sealed. I've always wanted a Optima until all the bad rumors

A lot of jeep folks swear by Sears DieHard Platinum.
I have had zero issues with my yellow top. Filling 4 tires without engine running countless times. Left my headlights on for almost 2 hours one day, started up strong.
My wheelbearing that was grinding 'looked' to be in good condition.

For running a winch, a marine battery is great (blue top), DieHard also make one. Marine batteries are true deep cycle and has side terminals that the winch can bolt to. Other batteries have side terminals but only for 'low draw'.
Yellow tops are combination starting/deep cycle

It depends on where you go for inspection. PA inspection code is open to interpretation by many shops...but I think in most cases, anyone wishing to run heims on steering components is likely a Jeep guy with an inspection hookup anyways.

So I found this link.
I was thinking of building my own heim steering set up.
120 bucks for the Heim set which include the threaded bungs and the jam nuts, etc.
My work can get 20 ft of 1.5 DOM for like 100 bucks.
I figure the whole set up would cost me 170 bucks using only 10 ft of DOM.
Anyone have experience using that brand?

Just ordered 1.5 DOM tubing with 1/4 wall thickness. Gonna order ruffstuff 7/8 heim set and start building the steering linkage for myself and a friend. Hopefully I ll have enough leftover to make a stinger for my bumper. I'm stoked
