I'm new here, looking for some insight on my project jeep.
I bought it as a bone stock 2wd, 4.0l 6 cyl 5 speed manual
since then, i have put a lift on it, bigger tires, nice lights, etc.
etc. The next step in my project is a 4wd conversion. I've already sourced the new axles and the rear driveline, but I'm having trouble figuring out what i need for the transmission. It came with the NV3550, but i'm told that the 2wd transmission will not bolt up to the transfer case. I'd like to keep it a 5 speed manual, so i would appreciate some insight as to where i can find the transmission and transfer case i need for not-too-much money.
thanks for your help!
P.s. next time I'm home on leave I'll take some more photo's to catalog my build here.

There are write-ups all over the internet. I cannot say which ones you should read though lol
Some more knowledgeable members here will be along to help in a bit.
You can start by making a list of parts you will need. The easiest way to do this would be to purchase a complete donor vehicle and take all the parts you need. But that is not always an option.
Basic list and not including everything you may need
4x4 transmission
Transfer case
Trans to transfer case bolts
Transfer case shift linkage and lever
center console with opening for lever
While you are at it you may aswell replace
Clutch/pressure plate/flywheel/bearing
Slave cylinder
Transmission mount
Universal joints
You can take a look through my build thread. It should cover most of the items you need for a 5 speed 2wd to 4wd conversion. You can also PM me if you have any direct questions.

thanks! Your thread looks like a great example. I think once i get around to actually putting stuff together I'll make a build thread like that. I'll look to yours for reference!
At this point, I have sourced the transmission, transfer case, drivelines, and diffs from a 96 xj. I'm gonna have to clean them up a bit because they were out in the weather, but they should work fine. I plan on doing a brake refresh as well, so I'm going to do that on the bench before I swap everything in.
