far as i know you can't use the 2wd trans i heard at one time there was a adapter to convert a 2wd trans but it was like 300 bucks and i didn't spend 300 on my 4wd aw4 and 231tc lol so yea i would look to get a 4wd trans and tc together to make it easy there is to different trans out put spline counts (21-23) so i would if you could get the trans and tc together
and yes the rear drive shafts are different between 2wd and 4wd

That sucks... my tranny works just fine - you know what they say, if it ain't broke... I'm always a little leary about used transmissions... never really know how well they're gonna perform unless you've driven the donor vehicle they came out of. Oh well, thanks for the info though man, great thread!!!! Time for me to start savin' up for parts

i know what you mean man my 2wd trans worked just fine and i was leary about the used trans as well but it ended up working so i guess i got alittle lucky
Congrats on the build!
But dude you made this thread look soo easyy.
I also have a 93 Cherokee. "Country" edition, and its 2wd.
Am planning on making it 4x4, pretty soon, I just need time and money.
I all ready have a 88 cherokee laredo 4x4, engines blown, so i am going to take the front axle, tranny and t-case from that one. I know how to swap the axles, and trannys, but the only problem i would have is setting the t-case in its right position, and you know how the t-case has some wires that need to be connected, do they hve to be connected in order for it to work or do you not have to worrie about connecting all the wires and cables? and also on how to install the 4x4 selector. Could you help me out with that, thats all i would proubly need to know to get my build started. Thanks

Awesome... yeah, I think once I get to the point that I'm ready to do mine, I'm gonna buy a donor vehicle with a bad motor and/or body... saw plenty of them on CL for between 500-1000... that way I know I have everything I need.

like this build man!!! i found a great deal on a lifted 2wd, 2dr lifted 99 xj. but it seems like alot of work to convrert it to 4x4, so i passed it.
also, you should paint the jeep and cherokee emblems black to match the 4x4 one, that wouold be good looking.
and tint your windows! looks like a fish bowl, haha nice jeep.

I've been following this since I joined...plan on doing the same thing to my 93. I have 4 donors within 15 minutes of me.....just sitting in yards with grass growing up around them. Got mine for $1200, so it would be worth it for me to convert.

wow its been awhile sense i have posted anything well its been awhile sense i have done anything to the jeep other than drive and enjoy it well i have been hella busy at work and my bumper build has been slow to start due to time but it will be built just take a while longer but i was messing around with some scrap when me a buddy(fellow xjer) got the idea to make some temp. recovery points for the front and i know yall will probally hate on these but its ok there just for now anyway there 1/2 in.x 3 in ss flat bar with 3 1/2 holes and a 7/8 hole with a angled bend i used the two mounting points under the swap bar and there is one weld nut right behind the back bolt that i used as well

i know these aren't the most ideal recovery point but i think they can get me by until my bumper is done
