I suggest going to Swan Beach, Carova and Penny's Hill on the Currituck outer banks. Before summer starts. It's free and easy.
Hatteras is a National Park and requires a permit to drive on the beach ($120 per year). The beaches are much more difficult to navigate as well. Deep sand, deep ruts, drop-offs, sink holes, high tides and off camber cruising. Fun! But the maritime forest trails is state owned. Free and open.

Thought some of you might get a kick out of these, my neighbor called me the other day and says umm I need some help. So Charlie had to go do a little recovery.

What's up man, I'm about to bring my family down in the Cherokee to wheel on the beach memorial day weekend. Seeing as you live in the area any suggestions on where to go or anything like that? Thanks
No luck on the mirror bracket. All the XJ's there were already picked over pretty well. Sorry man.

HA, not for me. Tight trails and strong tree branches.
I was thinking of removing them next time I go "wheelin'. Damage prevention.
How about a pair of 'mirror guards'?
That was a jest..

This type of weather is great for wheeling. Going to Penny's Hill and the surrounding trails (wooded area between Swan Beach/Carova and Carolla).
Then through the gate into False Cape state park on the bicycle, when it gets too sandy I walk. It's like de-evolving.

Hello, just bought a 96' xj and have a 3.5" RE lift kit on order. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Eric and if anyone can clue me in on some decent trails in the area that would be great. If anyone ever needs help wrenching or anything just let me know.
Again, welcome to CF, Eric! There's not anything in the tidewater/hampton area unfortunately that's not private land as far as wheeling spots, but there are a few clubs in the area that do quite a few trips. I would recommend you check out HRJC.org. It's a great club and we're always looking to add another XJ!

I will do that, thanks! Whats the closest spot to wheel near us. Once I get my lift on, my friend and our wives wanted to go camping so we're looking for a good place.
Other than that you're looking at stuff like Crabtree Falls (site camping) which has camping, Shoe Creek and Big Levels (trail camping), Uwharrie (nearby site camping and trails), and Flag Pole (trail camping and trails) which are all 4-5 hours out.
