Tom Woods offers the full shaft with HD yoke. Cut, tapped, and splined.
Not cheap. For 242

Have you thought about grabbing a 231 from the junk yard and upgrading? Shouldn't be too hard.

Steve- That's the only option and for a college student its no option haha. The budget for something like that just isn't there.

No desire to go to 231, I don't see it as an upgrade I love my 242 and don't want to get rid of it. I'm just going to bite the bullet and hack and tap it and pray to god I don't mess it up. I may try to find myself a spare 242 mainshaft before I attempt it.

Yeh I guess upgrade wasn't really the word I was looking for either. But easier to find parts for? Lol. I'm so jealous of long arms. Can't wait to upgrade one day.

I was apprehensive about doing it for the first time too. Ended up being straightforward. The cut goes much straighter and easier with the output shaft turning. Either with the engine running, automatic in 'R'. Or a friend can turn the front shaft or front wheel while you are cutting. Then bevel the end.
It would be harder to mess it up than it is to do it good. No need for extra shaft on hand.

Anyone live in the area that does bumpers/metal fab. I want to build bumpers, rock rails, and I think eventually a cage. I talked to a guy that lives here in Newport News to do a build for me but when I said I wanted to assist In the build he said no thanks.

If you want to assist your best bet is to get involved in a club like hrjc that I mentioned in my previous post. I know Mark would help you out and maybe a couple others.

I've got access to a plasma cutter and CNC machine. I can currently cut out 1/8" steel and thinner but in January I'll be working on getting my other cutter working so I can cut out thicker material. It can only cut 4'x4'. If anyone needs anything cut out just PM me

Radiator sprung a leak, time for a new one. Gonna do water pump and thermostat while I'm at it.

I joined hrjc but haven't been to any of the meets yet. I'll be working on some XJ and MJ related parts next year once I get the other plasma cutter running.

There's a few guys. No_rdplz and I are. Then there's several guys ok not sure are on here. We've got four active Xj members and a new MJ member that I can think of off the top of my head. Then several others who are in every now and then.
