The change began when the SM rating was introduced in 2005. But the API continued to license the SL oils until 2007. Now that the SL licenses are expiring, the manufacturers are switching the formulation.
Now just because an oil carries the SL rating still doesn't guarantee that it contains the needed levels of Zinc and Phosphorous. SL and SM share a minimum level of 600ppm for these. But the maximum in an SM oil is 800ppm and the maximum in an SL oil is 1000ppm.

he said something about a recall on the cam or lifters...
they didnt have an emergency recall because the oil sucks all the sudden...

to each his own... frankyboy keep adding stuff to your oil and I will continue to trust in the additive package...

well what happened to with the recall was the gear that turns the oil pump/distributor wore out and didnt pump enough oil this is why i lost oil pressure right before i started runnin on four cylinders(this is what the recall was for, sorry for the faulty info)
