Honestly its just some screws... I took mine out not long ago to replace the shifter. I removed the center lid first. Then there was only a handful of screws left to find and wuala. Was not complicated whatsoever and I am not mechanically inclined. Goodluck dude. Don't break it out haha. That stuff gets frustrating as hell

what year is the Jeep? If it is a 97+, there are the screws on the bottom of the storage bin, then the four screws on the top rim of the storage bin. Then there is one screw under the shifter plate, and one more under the 4wd shifter plate. Once you get them all out, pull your ebrake handle as far up as you can, and you should be able to get it up and over the handle. Oh and dont forget to take off the shifter ****

On 97+ IIRC you need to remove the bezel for the radio/ac etc, the center one. E brake all the way up, tcase shifter in 4lo, and trans shifter in D I think. Also, make sure you've removed the trans shifter handle, it pulls off.

I have all the screws out and have removed everything except the radio, have the transfer case in 4L, shifter in whatever and the ebrake as high as it will go!
#@!$

Does the front come up first or the back?
I can get it off everything except the ebrake the damm thing will NOT go over it!!!

I guess from what you are saying the front should come up to the top of the dash and then slide off of the ebrake?

I love my Jeep, I love my Jeep ...............

Nope you do not have to remove the bezel for the raido/ac.

pull up the front first, and slide it UP and BACK as you guide it over the e-brake. i removed mine and put it back in after installing a new shifter/bezel in like 30 mins and had no idea what i was doing. i was scared when i found out i had to remove the whole console, but was surprisingly simple.

It just slides out.

Tip the front up & slide it forward to clear the E-brake handle.

No need to remove the center radio cover but i guess it might make it easier.

Good luck.

I finally got it out but if this is easy I don't want to see what is hard!!

I think that my ebrake is in too good condition, this XJ is a low mileage, 2001 with 42000 miles, that belonged to the Canadian Military. So it was maintain rather well, so there isn't a whole lot of ebrake handle movement.

I did wrestle the console up the dash enough to get it to turn sideways and then wrestle it off the ebrake.
I am dreading ]both reinstalling and if I ever have to take it off again. So it will be the last thing that I deal with once my repairs and upgrades are done!

Thanks for the help.

Oh hey glad to see you got this thing off! I've seen your thread over on JeepKings and I think I've even seen the ad for that XJ. It's green, right? lol

Greetings from Kingston
