Shifter Console Problem
This is a dumb one, but I want to fix this on my 2004 Grand Cherokee.
You know those little overlapping pieces of plastic that cover the hole in the console, for the shifter arm?
This isn't my vehicle but it shows what I'm talking about:

Mine get stuck, and leave a hole in the console. I guess they're dirty or and get gunked up? Does anyone know what I mean?
I wonder how I can fix this or clean it so they won't get bunched up together? I'm not about to ask the dealer when I take it in for an oil change - they'll want to replace the whole center console assembly.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Old fart with a wrench
Spilled some of your Starbucks on it, did ya? LOL! I'd just soak it with a good household spray cleaner and work it back and forth. The only way to get it off the console is to take the shift ***** off, and you don't want to get involved with that if you can help it. Believe me, it's no picnic. The light is a membrane plate and doesn't have any bulbs in it. You can take the console top off but the plate will just pop up to the top of the *****. Check out wjjeeps.com for all the info on how to take apart your WJ, replace light bulbs, and other fancy stuff.

Thank you, Dave.
The console is pretty clean and I, personally, never spilled my Starbucks. I guess I'll soak it well with some 409 spray cleaner and work both shifter arms back and forth, and see if that will loosen up the little overlapping plastic pieces.
