I leak oil, this one may be for you... haha:P So I got oil dripping from my where my inspection plate is. it's not extremly bad, but when I've got alot of speed the drips fly back onto the exhaust and burn up making my jeep smoke. not sure where the leak is, but it falls off my jeep at the inspection plate.

It could be your oil filter adapter also. I did this mod in about 10 minutes and no more leaking from the adapter. I bought a torx bit from Advanced Auto parts and cut the top way down and used a ratcheting wrench on the bit. That way I had plenty of clearance to get the adapter off.

Sometimes the shift linkage loosens and you can slip outta 4wd and some other stuff but try a complete thing first
Thanks for the reply I'll try that next time. But what you're saying is to switch to 2wd I gotta put it in neutral switch to 2 then back in drive. I'm gonna say my shift linkage might be loose because sometimes I can stay locked in 4wd and it's fine. Other times it wont engage after its been switched

Default heat not coming out of the defroster.

ok, its getting kinda cold now as we go into the fall, and the heat comes out of every other vent, but the floor, and the defroster vent on my 97 cherokee. I know there is a flap that opens to let the heat threw, and i know that it is not opening, so can anyone possibly tell me where the vacuum pod is that controls this defroster vent?? Im also thinking i may be able to access a pod, or lose hose behind the radio, but still am not sure. Thanks everyone!!

The vacuum ball is in the bumper, check all the vacuum lines.

Just to clarify, and to put t bluntly, to go from 2hi to 4hi you can do it just by removing foot from gas peddle and pulling the handle and boom you in 4wd. It's when you need to do 4lo that you must put the Tranny in neutral first

Here's a misc question. I have a 2.8l 1985 cherokee. One of the exhaust manifold bolts has fallen out which i hear is a common issue with these motors. Anyways, anyone have any idea what size the bolt is? the old one fell out rather than break off, so should be an easy replace job.

That's what i thought when i read it. But im 99% sure the reason it slips out of 4lo is because the linkage might be off. I know this might not help but my tcase says 4l
n
4h
Which i always found interesting lol

take another one out, take it to the parts store, and find a grade 6 or 8 that it fits. Or they might be able to tell you what size they are

Can someone confirm the production runs of the 231...

I've read that 91 and older is 21 spline and that 91 and up is 23 spline. I need a 231, to swap out my 91s 242. I just got a parts jeep that is a 95. Which is definitely a 23 spline.

My 91 is 4.0 HO, automatic (aw4), np242. Will it work or what? I'm thinking the confusion on the split may be that some 91s still had renix? I dunno.

any 231 that came behind a 4.0 HO engine/ AW4 tranny will be 23 spline input. You'll need to verify the input shaft length on the 231 matches the 242, but it should work.

Thank you for putting me at ease. Somewhat. Lol. I think they are the same. Guess we'll see. I've read though that they are either .840 or .750 and if they are different lengths that some RTV gasket around the tranny/tcase meeting should make the seal OK. Ever heard of that? Or is there a way to trim that if needed? I'm going to have the case apart for a sye and possibly partial rebuild anyways.

I probably pull it from a case at the JY I'm hoping it all just lines up but you know how that goes.
