While I am on here I figured I would shoot another question out there. My 99 sport 5 speed grinds into reverse most of the time. I try the shuffle (shift into another gear before going into reverse) with no results. all other gears seem to shift as well as can be expected from a jeep with 126000 miles. No rear synchros in reverse as I understand it in the ax-15. I just ordered a pre-filled assembly clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder assembly. I also ordered a clutch kit. I figure it can't hurt, and I don't really know the life span of these clutch systems. Am I on the right track. The Master Cylinder is full of fluid and I don't see any leaks in the slave. I'm just thinking they got weak. Could it be a pressure plate issue? I just don't know if I wasted money ordering this stuff, I suppose I could return it. Truth be told, I actually enjoy working on my Jeeps and don't mind learning new things about them. I just wish I had the cash flow to upgrade them.

I'm new here obviously, but have gotten a lot of valuable advice and diagnostics from the forums here. I have a 1999 Cherokee Sport, 5 Speed, with 126,000 miles. When it is cold there is no knocking sound heard at all, however, once it is at operating temp, there is a soft, but definately audible knocking. I can only hear it when sitting in the cab at a stop light or idling in a parking lot. The knocking doesn't seem to increase with rpms, and in fact I can't here it when the rpms are above idling at all. I have crawled all around the bottom of the jeep, and under the hood, and can't here it except in the cab. It's driving me nuts. Valves? Do I just need a tune up? Just asking for any advice.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I ended up playing around today, and think I narrowed down the knocking/ticking I hear in the cab. I think it is the evap purge solenoid. Under the hood if I get real close to it I can hear it ticking when the engine is at operating temp. I think it resonates to the canister possibly through the hose, and that is why I can only hear it at idle. Just thinking this could be it. I hope so anyway. Maybe someone else will find this helpful. I don't think it is a big issue, but let me know if I am wrong or should fix it right away.

Nothing to really be concerned about to be honest, so dont rush yourself doing it. My Master cylinder is in such bad shape that if i get into some stop and go traffic for a while it'll have a 'errrrk' audible from outside and inside the jeep. So if mines still functioning.. yours should be ok for a little while longer
But i would still definitely replace them.. Worth your time and money if you feel like doing it.
My 1990 Cherokee starts while I am holding the key in the start position, roughly might I add, then it stalls when the key is relased to the on position. I replaced my ignition switch and the problem was still not solved. When taking the old switch off, I noticed that one of the wires on a terminal had slightly melted and burnt up the terminal. Is it possible that this wire shorted out and is now ruined and not allowing power to flow through it? If not, does anybody have any other sugestions? I have been stumped for a week now and any help would be much appriciated.
