I read the write up on swapping seat bottoms, but I am not sure how to disassemble the seat backs.
Do you know if anyone has done a write up on how to change the seat backs and tilt handle?

Depending on the tranny and year, the 231 has three different input shafts lengths and two spline counts. You have to find the one that fits your AX-15 and year.
EDIT: WOW these guys from Novak rock for the amount of information they give...
have a look:

according to their chart your TC has a 23 spline, long output, so you have to look for a post '94 cherokee with AX15 and 231, sorry no ZJ.
Wranglers maybe, i'm still looking, but if i remember correctly the bolt pattern is rotated a bit so that the TC hangs lower.

yeah i didnt even think about the long shaft compared to the wranglers. didnt know about them being clocked a little too. thanks got a hook up from a buddy for one. but both my output shafts(the one he gave me and mine) seem to have a little wobble or play in them as if they are bent a little. is there some sort of tollerence in the amount of play?
not if he is talking about the rear that one can be removed with no ill effects. my front and rear are both out. not saying it dont sway a little though in the turns

I'll try using an air ratchet to get those 2 bolts.
ps For the 89 I tried to remove the brackets but the bolt heads are so rusted the socket stripped the heads.
Yes, the instrument cluster. Pull it and look for loose/corroded connections. The corrosion can be missed rather easily, so I would just clean all the contacts with a contact cleaner spray you can get at Radio Shack.
I had a speaker that was going in and out but the connections looked fine. Before I started tracing wires back looking for a break, I cleaned the contacts using a rubber pencil eraser and then contact cleaner, and the speaker started working. By looking at the contacts you would have never thought corrosion was the problem.
