Hey guys,

Im new to the XJ world, I have a TJ and JK.

I picked up a 89 XJ with the Aw4 Trans.

I know the trans is busted due to the fact of its literally cracked..

Anyway, I'm looking to find a replacement, can someone point out if I have to find a specific year or something special or will any AW4 trans work?

Kinda of a dumb question but rather appear dumb than blow $$$..

Did you check/clean the connector? Did you install a new or used CPS?
If new, did you leave the paper spacer on it when installing?

The manual says: "If installing the original sensor, obtain an original-type spacer from a dealership parts department and apply it to the tip of the sensor to properly set the sensor depth. A new sensor should be equipped with the paper spacer in place. Install the sensor, lightly press the spacer against the driveplate and tighten the bolt to 60 in-lbs. Caution: Damage to the sensor will occur at startup if the sensor-to- driveplate clearance is not correct."

I wonder if It would be better if I get the free trans and get a different transfer case... or would it be better to just get the correct trans?

For all i Know the transfer case could be bad as of right now.

I have a seller with a AW4 witha NP-231 with a SYE installed..he is asking 350.00 ( out of a 1995)

Could i swap out both my Trans and Transfer case? or would I run into more work than its worth?
