Your sis really put that XJ through the ringer! Sounds like maybe there's an internal engine/head flow restriction. When you drove with the heater on was it blowing hot air. Sounds like your on the right track with the flush. Do the BEST you can but be aware that some of that debris has gotten into your new components and may not come out just by flushing.

GOOD LUCK
Thanks again Earl. Yeah she is murder on vehicles. She blew the motor on the perfectly running Grand Am that I traded her for the XJ about 6 months after the trade.

Anyway, yes it did blow hot when I drove with the heater on. My heater does not blow hot during the winter (not sure if that makes a difference or not). Don't think I mentioned it, but it does not smoke, I haven't lost any coolant since that road trip, and no coolant showing in the oil. It does seem to be running well, but I do want to start taking trips back up north when I can, so am trying to make sure it is ok before I do. Not sure if Im being over cautious now or what.

Anyway, thanks again for all of your help. Have a good one!

Well... I killed the battery last night when I took the wife to the hospital. I was so excited about her possibly being in labor that I forgot to shut the lights off I got it jumped off and drove it back home fine. The battery is back up to par (started it this afternoon just like normal), but now for whatever reason when I let off the gas, it acts like it's going to stall... RPM's drop down to about 750 instead of the usual 900-1000. Also when it starts up, it usually does a brief high-idle, but now it starts up right to normal idle.

Is there anything that the dead battery could have messed up? ECM? IAC? Something?

When mine did that I replaced the tps and iac seemed rid the problem, however I don't see that being the battery tho?

If the battery went totally flat, the ECM will have forgotten all its learned data. It will take a few start/stop cycles (normal operation) for it to re-learn the engine characteristics. It continues to learn for up to 50 start/stop cycles.
So it's normal, just keep driving it and it should be back to normal real soon.

Is your battery holding its FULL charge? I I recall correctly, a lot of dual purpose batteries aren't meant to be discharged that far, and can take a while to recharge. The surging bit sounds like a typical IAC/TPS problem but overall just sounds like your alt is dragging things down. When I left my interior lights on one night all winter (two melted holes in snow on roof: uhoh) I had to keep the pedal down for a few minutes as it just wouldnt idle. Didn't behave right for the next couple of days, but cleared up afterwards.

You can use a hack saw wa metal blade to straighten up the threads. Use light pressure on blade. If you do it right its just let use a tap and die set. used the saw plenty of times so I know it works

Quick question about my '94 2wd 4.0 cherokee
I'm having trouble starting and keeping it running.
somedays it will crank and crank forever and never catch, others it will fire right up...
but before you suggest the CPS, the truck will die driving down the road and then not start back up, or take forever to start back up...
So, my question is; could the CPS kill the truck? or only keep it from starting?
ive replaced one before on a previous jeep, but ive never run into this problem before..
any help is appreciated

I'm in the same situation. I've replace my TPS, no change. Next I'm going to try the IAC.

Default Throttle body cleaning gone wrong..

Does anyone know what this part is called? It mounts to the side of throttle body and there is a plastic piece (piece has kind of a plunger at the end of it)
that plugs into it with an electric connector.

Took the TB off to clean it up and silly me I was going to try and be thorough. Didn't notice there was a gasket for that piece. Of course it was broken into several pieces. Autozone, Napa, and O'rielly's have no record of it or didn't know what to call it.

I believe that is the IAC that plugs into this piece, but I can't anywhere that mentions a gasket.
