Sorry I must be getting confused by another person's post mentioning overheating. Is your temp fine then? My logic was loss of coolant = overheat = head issues = crap leaking into crankcase or combustion chamber

 

Could be a stuck caliper, or a flexible brake line could be collapsed on the inside, preventing flow.

 

What should I check first? And how should I check it?

 

Yea temp is running fine now. I just got paranoid. Just a radiator leak.

 

i signed up to this forum because i saw a thread about a manual cable 4 wheel drive adaption. my front wheels do not engage i tried to follow all the site links everyone left to see how to do this but all the sites are gone or down or unavailable. im a very visual person step by step if someone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated. i have a 89 cherokee laredo.

 

If he means dumping the vacuum actuator on the D30, I'm also interested. I haven't looked into yet, but I'd rather replace it before it fails.

 

Use a long regular shaft from a later model D30 and a block off plate. Eliminate it all together.

 

Clown i have a block off plate on that D30 in my shed you can grab. No shafts though...

If I have a sticking caliper should I try to lube the pin up or just get new calipers?

 

Newer xjs have a slip yoke too I am fully aware of this because I have one good fail there expert.

 

I just noticed a crack in a rubber piece that seems to have something to do with the brakes.



It's a little blurry sorry, but you can still see the little crack on the washer-like piece that's attached to the big drum thingy.

Should I be worried or is that no big deal?

I'd say no biggie. If it would make you feel better it's probably cheap to replace, wiggle it if it doesn't move I wouldn't worry about it.

 

I found it in my book: "There is a rubber diaphragm in the top of the master cylinder cover/cap. As the fluid level lowers in the reservoir due to normal brake shoe wear or leakage, the diaphragm take sup the space. This acts to prevent the loss of brake fluid out of the vented cover/cap and to prevent contamination of the brake fluid by dirt."

I wonder if when I pop off the cover this afternoon I'll find dirty brake fluid.

And, there's no mention of what the part is called. Anyone know?

 

Take it into the parts store and say I need one of these.
