lol yeah, it's a big large... I wouldn't personally try to jam something THAT big in there (twss), but you can't argue with the fuel economy increase

 

My 2007 ford f150 had a cone filter that was sealed up really well, an the filter was a bit bigger. Itd fit perfect were our stock xj filter box is. The cone filter only comes with the 4.7 4x4 motor edition. Could probably get one frpm the junk yard for farely cheap an itd be a easy mod cause if I remeber right the flex tube was about the same exact size.

 

Interesting, I'll keep that in mind. If the price is right I'm not opposed to buying new, either, like if the air box is say $30 at NAPA or something.

I'm not against cone-shaped filters btw, I just agree with the Aussie that higher air flow + less surface area of the silly oiled K&N doesn't add up in terms of durability or maintenance. There's this absurd ad in the latest 4 Wheel & Offroad magazine from K&N that proclaims that their dust-plugged filter with dead bugs and all kinds of debris stuck to it moves more than a clean paper one. Thing is, you can literally see the holes in the mesh. I'm not exactly convinced that's superior lol. From the photo it looks like I could take some screen from my windows, soak it in WD-40 and make the same claim.

 

Ya I hear ya. I don't understand how they can possbly catch more dirt then paper ones. But with that ford stock cone filter you can use either or.

 

So I have a 95 xj sport, and when it rains the rear corner panels fill up with water... what is a good fix for this problem?

 

Find where it's leaking.... Then seal it....

Well, lets try to figure this out. The tallest of the years "1994 to 2001" is 64 inches. Lets go on the high side since it's better to be safe than sorry.
64 inches plus 4.5 is 68.5, plus the 32 inch tires which are approx 3.5 more inches taller than stock 28.5 inch tires. So half of 3.5 inches is 1.75 inches plus 68.5 equals 70.25 inches. And since most lift kits are advertised 4.5 inches over stock height not over sagging height this should be a decent guesstimate. It might be slightly higher for a few months until the springs settle.

I notice a lot of people that get a lift kit and say "My 4.5 inch lift really gave me 5.5 inches". That's because over time your stock suspension sags, especially the rear leaf springs. The tire size is a tough one to nail down too. Each manufacturer has a different idea of what a 32 inch tire is "along with any other sizes". My 31 inch tires measure without a load on them a hair over 30 inches.

So, approximately 70.25 inches. Which is probably a bit on the high side because of weight on the tires will lower it a bit and and I used the tallest Jeep year for the example.

 

If it is not a rust through problem it is probably the rear quarter side window seals. They dry up and shrink with age and allow water to leak in. When you drive in the rain, the wind/air runs the water down the sides of your Jeep into any gap in the window seals. You can buy replacement window seals. For about $18 a piece. Rockauto.com has them.

Well it looks like an oil pump may be in short order for my 99 XJ. Anybody have any advice? Anything else I should change while I'm in there? Anyone prefer one pump over another? Oil pressure drops right off at a hot idle...

 

I had oil pressure issues till I changed my oil pump. I went with a high flow pump... Warning oil pan modification required.

Another reason for lack of oil pressure would be leaks. I still had poop pressure after fixing the leaks and changing the pressure sensor. So I did a oil pump.

 

MELING only for the oil pump. I'd do a rear main and oil pan gasket too. How many miles?

 

About 156k, runs around 35psi driving 35-45mph, but at a stop drops to <5!

 

Thanks! When I gas it, it's totally fine. I think cleaning the throttle/IAC will do it based on what I've been reading as well. Thanks for your response.

 

Hello all quick question, I've searched and searched and can't find the answer, I'm replacing my push Rods (4.0 HO 1993 7120 head, all stock) I can't seem to find a stock length pushrod, mine measure 9.625 inches, all aftermarket measure 9.641" can anyone clear this up for me? can I replace my rods with the 9.641" rods or do I need to find 9.625" rods. Thanks !

 

Is it truly loosing pressure? I thought mine was, but it ended up just being the oil pressure sending sensor. $40 and only took mind to swap.
Mine was doing the same thing mid-winter. That's all it ended up needing.
If you don't have a mechanical gauge, try stopping by a garage that can throw one on there to test, before changing the pump.
