Does the front end need to be off the ground to change out the steering stabilizer? Just bought a Monroe in hopes it cures the loose feeling in the front end.

No it doesn't. But its always easier if the jeep is in the air. But you can do it just the same on the ground.

Do black headlight housings put out significantly less light? I would imagine so, but many high-end cars have dark housings... saw these on the interwebs:

It looks like the background is still reflective but there's many other better choices out there for a similar price. Are you replacing for looks or brighter lighting?

I got this same setup, mine are not black though. But they did come with the projectors. I tore them apart and took out the projectors and installed. Mini morimoto real hid projectors with 6k hids. The stock projectors in these throw light out everywhere and no matter how Much you adjust them they don't get better lol. My projectors cost 115 shipped. And they are real sealed projectors, thought I would throw in my 2 . Fellas

Looks, assuming it doesn't hurt the lighting. I'm not married to the ones in the link, just wanted black housing. Suppose I could even do it on my stockers... any specific suggestions? And thanks guys

If you're gonna go for looks at least make sure you get some with glass housings. Use good bulbs though, like some Silverstar Ultras. Don't go with cheapo hid's. Your going to compromise visabilalty as well as **** off incoming drivers. Those cheapo housings with hid's scatter light like you wouldn't believe. Check out Quadratech for some quality replacement housings. They're more than those but you'll be better off.

Totally agree with this one. My projectors have a cut off so they don't go on every direction, with the other FAKE projectors the light went everywhere including into on coming traffic eyes. Got lots of high beams flashed, but with the morimoto projectors its a problem in the past.

I actually have an extra set of brand new never used front and rears, but without the hardware bags (like $4 from RC). $75 shipped.

hah...no easy fixes. You need to do a compression test to tell how bad the problem is - looks pretty bad. Does it only smoke like that when you start it up? Or constantly?

3 possibilities:
#1- Oil entering your intake (maybe the breather hose)
#2- Intake Valve Stem seal
#3- Bad piston rings
