I'd suspect a clogged vent tube before suspecting that the build sheet was wrong.

From my understanding a clogged vent tube would just prevent me from filling the tank all the way, correct?
The gauge does go right up to F when I fill it. Not saying I trust the gauge wholeheartedly lol

Maybe others will reply to the build sheet topic. One example is the one for my son's '96(?) Wrangler. Has it listed has being equipped with 18" tires of some configuration. I believe there was a short thread about the inconsistencies of the build sheets no too long ago.

1996 Wranglers don't exist lol. The issue is when they reuse an RPO code for a newer vehicle.

As a made-up example, RKQ might have been "Power Door Locks" on a '94 XJ, but then the code RKQ was used for "Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror" on a 2016 Charger.

In that example, your old XJ would be listed as having ADRM instead of power locks

My build sheet lists 265/60r18 and the next bullet point lists 15” aluminum wheels

That's a good point.

I'm struggling to understand why it would have the smaller tank, though. I've heard of them, but never actually met someone who had one. Maybe the original got punctured and they replaced it with the cheapest one they could find?

Is that pump assembly Mopar? The PO for mine replaced the oem one with an airtex, and let me tell you that thing is garbage as far as the sender goes. 150 miles in to a tank I'm showing half full, and then I go from half to "you're not making it to the next gas station" over then next 50 miles.

What do you mean there are no '96 Wranglers? Anyway it's a '97 Wrangler TJ. Listed on the build sheet as coming with 265/60 R18 tires, but 15x 7 inch wheels.

Here's another:

YJ: 1986-95
TJ: 1997-06

There is no 1996 model year Wrangler. They're all '95 or '97.

Regarding the tires, that's what I'm talking about in the post you quoted. The information is wrong because the RPO code, which used to represent one thing when your Jeep was produced, has been reused for a newer vehicle and now represents something different in their system. It's common

original owner made a note in the manual for a new one at 265k changed at the dealer where it was purchased new.

There are at least 5 discrepancies between the build sheet and manual and vehicle. I am the 2nd owner and the guy I bought it from got it New and put 310k on the clock. Very old man, dealer for everything with all Mopar equipment

"If you're shopping for a used Jeep Wrangler, it will be impossible to find a 1996 model. That's because there were no 1996 models produced at all, as after the 1995 models with square headlines were finished, it was replaced them with the 1997 model that brought back the rounded headlights."

And here I thought my '96 XJ was suppose to be an odd ball.
Ok. Gotcha on the build code issue. Haven't seen my son's TJ build sheet since he lives in Florida so maybe there aren't any more inconsistencies.

Carry a gas can with a gallon or two in it. Drive the jeep till it runs out of gas. That’ll tell you if it’s a 13.5 or 20 gallon tank. The only difference between the two I believe is where the vent tube is located anyway so it could be modified to carry up to 25ish I believe is what I’ve read. This is for the earlier style steel gas tanks.
