Default Cherokee Help

I was bought a Jeep Cherokee as a graduation gift and my uncle asked to look at it the day after and he told me I need a new transmission and the current one should get replaced urgently and also I should get new muffler bearings because they're currently rubbing against the starter resevoir but thats not something that needs to be fixed right away but should be done because it could cause it to run loud and if gone unrepaired long enough could cause it to have issues with starting

I would like to know how much this would cost and how long the repairs will take and if they're something I can do myself

I really appreciate any help and tips and anything you can do thanks

Your uncle is having a bit of fun with you, and it gave me a good laugh as well.

Muffler bearings and starter reservoirs don't exist, but you may want to get more details from him if there really is a problem with your transmission.

How's he know you need a new transmission? Before you go and rule-out the one you have, make sure the fluid is DEX/MERC and it's red, not brown. What are the symptoms that you're experiencing? The AW4 transmission is pretty stout and hard to kill. Usually if one is "failing" it's due to brown (or wrong) fluid, a bad Transmission Control Unit (TCU), or bad (or dirty) Neutral Safety Switch (NSS).

You sure it's your muffler bearings? Have you tried installing a flux-capacitor yet? What about your blinker fluid? Gotta check everything, man!

Default Nostart fuel relay clicks on then off

I have a weird issue...I had one day where the jeep bogged like crazy under any type of load. Had to feather it back to work on lunch break. Started it up later that night and it acted like nothing happened. Next morning I go to start it and it sputters. no fuel. have spark. the fuel relay clicks on then off. I imagine the pumps gone since if i jump the relay the pump doesn't run but why isn't the fuel pump relay staying on!? I'm worried that if i get the pump it still wont run. any ideas on why this would happen?

Not saying it's going to fix your problem because jumping the pump should make it work, but try a new relay first. If it still doesn't work, you know it's the pump. That is very odd though that it would just fail intermittently like that.

i'll give it a shot. I know the relay is good but hopefully with the new pump the relay will stay on as opposed to turning back off in a split second. i think i'm still going to try routing power directly to the pump later tonight. it's bugging me that that relay is tripping. I want to be very sure the pump is bad before i replace it. not much money to blow at the moment...

You shouldn't have to take everything out to put it back in... I'm not quite sure I'm following the reason for all this.
