Chrysler/Jeep changed the spec from Dex/Merc to ATF+ because Chrysler transmissions use ATF+ and all XJs ever made are out of warranty. It's easier for them to stock just one type of fluid and then sell you a new transmission.

BTW cruiser, i will take note to simply listen to your advice that i read in multiple places next time. dropping the pan to change a filter with almost nothing in it was NOT worth my time nor the $100 it took to pay someone else to plug two connectors back together for me
LOL. Glad you got it up and running.

Hey guys, whenever I go around a corner with my jeep about 2 seconds later I will feel and hear a pop going from right underneath the drivers foot well. I can't seem to figure out what it is but it seems to be getting louder. I check my balljoint and the u joint and they both seem to be in good condition. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Check your lower shocks mounts. Grab and shake your shock around

I chuckle every time I see "This product is known to the state of California to cause cancer".

Really?

Close but wrong. They retired the Dex/Merc part number. The spec never changed.

They have it on everything. It's in hotel lobbies because the air contains car exhaust and carpet adhesive residue. It's asinine. Talk about crying wolf.

But, it's a shining example of direct democracy when the citizens are completely ignorant. Most of the retarded **** California's known for is the result of Propositions.

Thanks for the help, I just tried it and I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary like the popping. I am also a noob at this and really have no clue what to look/ listen for.

Id say put your front end on jacks and start feeling around all your joints and connections. Maybe someone else can suggest something more efficient

Check and make sure your bolts are tight for your upper and lower control arm mounts on the frame side. Also, inspect the "frame" for cracks. When you corner, the cracks will separate and butt back together and also move past each other - which can cause a popping sound. Also, check your upper shock bolt - even though it's not "under" your foot, the vibration could translate down through the frame. Happened to me when my shock stripped and completely lost the nut. I would go over a bump and "POP" which was essentially the shock finding its home back in the upper shock mount.

On to my next disaster. Thinking about bleeding my brake fluid. havent done it since ive had the xj. On a scale of 0-10 how difficult is this? Looks super easy, but then again so did my tranny pan drop.

-Suction out majority from master cylinder
-Replace with clean DOT3
-pop little hose guy onto right rear bleeder valve and syphon into bottle with a little bit of fluid in the bottom
-pump brakes ~5 times, check master cylinder, refill as appropriate
-continue with other bleeder valves until everything is clean

Somehow ill fudge something up. Any tips?

If you can, pick up a "MightyVac" or the Harbor Freight equivalent. Little hand-held vacuum pump used for testing as well as bleeding brakes. Makes it a one-man job, don't even need to hit the pedal.

First of all I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone for all of their help and advice, I have not gotten to fix the problem with the over heating as yet due to work related issues. (transferred to another island.)

Question I was talking to a friend who said that to make sure you have the correct cylinder head which can cause over heating also so I spoke with a company called odessa cylinder head in florida who asked me for the casting number on the cylinder head which I gived them and come to find out it was not the original cylinder that was on the jeep, which I made known to them. after giving them the casting number of the original cylinder head they recommend me changing it cause because the intake is different can this also cause over heating issues and should I change the cylinder head.
