Ignition coil should get 12V. It receives power from the ASD relay, same as the injectors. (Injectors are operated by the PCM toggling ground for them).

Thanks salad I couldn't find that info anywhere.
Figured out the camshaft sensor needed to be replaced. I thought I had verified it was within spec but swapping it out made the engine start right up. So I guess the PCM was not letting the ignition coil get the right voltage because it detected a problem with the camshaft sensor. Or...something.

2. Electrical problems
3. Dumb hacks previous owners have done instead of diagnosing the above

I have a 96 XJ and I'm interested in opinions of Dynamat, Fatmat, GTMat, etc. I have a significant hearing loss and wear 2 hearing aids so background noise is a real issue for me. What products have you used and a) are you pleased with them b) any issues with odor for the asphalt based stuff.

What is this!?(and ignore the broken leaf...
) I thought cherokees were just leaf sprung in the back with shocks?

Also, would the "cherry bomb" the PO had cause hard starting? Tried cycling the key to see if the fuel check valve is bad and it still takes almost 5 seconds of cranking to start. If I turn the vehicle off and then try to start it again it fires right back up. I'm not liking the drone so I want to replace the exhaust but that strut looks like it might be in the way?

^^Monroe makes them. I've seen them labeled as sensa-trac or just coilovers. My understanding is they are a very bad bandaid for sagging (or broken) leafs. They put too much pressure on the shock perch.

Indeed. The welded bolts for the shocks regularly snap just trying to take the nut off.

Huh...did an experiment today. I turned the key on and just let it sit for a few seconds. Heard the fuel pump kick on the off, waited a few more seconds and then tried starting it and it started right up. And it was 20 degrees outside.
