Marvel Mystery Oil as a substitute for one quart of engine oil. Look at it after 1000 miles, both on the dipstick and monitoring the sludge with a flashlight in the oil filler hole.

Default Radiator Opinions Wanted

96, country edition, 4x4, 230000+ miles, stock, to be a sometime DD (mostly just a hobby though ;-) ).
It looks like I may have a small leak in my radiator. I'll know definitely after I rent a pressure testing kit. I don't want to use any stop leak type products and would prefer to just replace the radiator. I did a quick look at some sites and found a couple at Rock Auto. My question is has anyone had any issues with an aftermarket radiator vs spending twice the amount for one from a dealer? The two I found at Rock Auto, one was copper and one was aluminum. Any preference on which of those (cost is almost the same). The copper one is 13mm narrower, not sure that matters though I need to check that out.

Default 2.5l Valve Cover (plastic to aluminum)

Has anyone here done this? I posted a regular thread on this, but also wanted to ask people in this thread. Mine is a 1984, 2.5l.

Thanks!

GregB58 - I have used all aluminum after market radiators ever since my 95 went through 3 multi part radiators in a year. Also on a pals '86 crawler, we pulled the AC and put in a 3 row all Al. Thing never gets close to hot.

After the troubles I have had with the stock XJ radiator, I will always go for an all AL aftermarket before another stock plastic/Al one again.

Would an engine with bad rings still run without producing blue exhaust smoke?

Got home from school today and noticed a nice puddle under my jeep. Popped the hood and the coolant overflow bottle is empty and the coolant in the radiate isn't full ethier. So I started looking around and found what looked like a small drip/stream of coolant coming down from the bottom of the upper radiator hose. Funny thing is I just replace all my hoses less than a month ago. Not sure why it's leaking. Hose clamp is plenty tight and I have never had any problems with overheating. Could this be a cracked radiator around the upper radiator hose outlet? Is that common? It's a metal radiator, not the plastic one so I'm not sure. As far as I know, it's the original radiator. Any ideas? Cracked radiator? Something else?

Sorry about the NOS as stated new old stock or OEM. I have tried many site's with no luck, did get the front OEM pan on Amazon, but apparently the rear cargo pan is no longer available. Hard to believe that being that the front full pan is readily available.
