I'm having intermittent overheating (very slightly) and replaced my radiator cap. The one I picked up is 18 pounds vs the seemingly OEM 16 pound one. New rad, new waterpump. Any dangers in putting this on? Are the radiators rated that closely to their cap pressure? I don't want to split my new radiator wide open. I know it'll raise the boiling pressure, but I was just figuring a fresh 16 pounder would have less leaking.

What's this gray cylinder thing do. It's in top left area in engine bay.

EDIT: so I think it's the AC Accumulator. I don't have AC, no line, no compressor, nothin. Can I remove this to clear up space in my engine bay?

It's carbon canister. Fuel vapor recovery.

Not rated that closely.

The gas tank has a breather line that lets fuel vapors escape in hot weather. The vapors travel into that canister, where they are filtered through charcoal and then passed to the air intake for combustion. You need that canister.

Cool. (ha ha!)

Also I noticed a bunch of other models have the 18lb as a stocker. Later 90's wranglers and such with the 4.0 use that, I would hope they have a similar radiator.

On she goes!

Default remove interior carpet

Carpet pretty trashed, thinking of removing completely and doing a liner DIY. Anyone have any ideas? Too loud inside? Heat travel up thru floorboard?

I'm probably gonna be getting the axles off a 98 cherokee it has the 8.25 and d30. He told me to come up with a price but I'm not sure how much they usually go for. What do you guys think I offer?

Whining noise when a.c. is on in jeep cherokee - YouTube
Bad bushings on the fan shaft. Mine does it too occasionally. When it does, I turn it off and back on again, and it usually goes away.

Default Voltage issues

So I have been having a problem lately with my 99 xj sport 4.0 auto. The battery gauge will read 12.5 volts when the key is first turned on and climb to 14 volts once the engine is started. Which reads accurately when I check the battery with a voltage meter. The problem is, after driving for a bit the battery gauge drops dead and the check gauge light comes on. Re-testing the battery while this is happening still shows the battery is receiving the proper charge from the alternator. Any ideas what might be causing this? Is it something wrong with the gauge itself?

I think he means the torx bolt that has a plastic sleeve that acts as a hinge. To the orginal question you could use it as a ground, providing you clean off the paint.

Is there any truth to the myth that flushing a neglected transmission will lead to it failing?

Depends. There are several ways to flush a transmission, and most shops I've talked to can't even tell me which type they perform.

The only correct way is to disconnect the hoses and put the pickup in a bucket of clean fluid with the output in an empty bucket. Cycle fluid using the transmission's pump until clean red fluid comes out.

DO NOT EVER BACKFLUSH OR USE A PRESSURIZED FLUSH IN AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
