I'm new to the XJ world. The biggest unexpected side effect is that every time I see an XJ that is owned by a company or government entity, I want to take it home and love it.
I work next to a building that has a fleet of these. So much potential is going to waste. Does this drive everyone crazy or is it just me?

so I just got a 1996 Cherokee not too long ago as my first truck. My Dad and Grandpa were big Chevy guys but something about a jeep attracts me. On the Chevy topic my Grandpa has an old Small Block V8 motor he saved from one of his old racing trucks and we were wondering if it can fit in my Jeep? And also my Dad said he has heard bad things about the transmissions so he wanted to know if we could switch the transmission with any other transmission or does have to be a Jeep/Chrysler or can it be from any other jeep model? Please help thank you!

Yes it is 4.0 and it is 4wd. The transmission slips a lot especially in reverse but it leaks a lot of the fluid the only time it doesnt slip is when we just put transmission fluid in. And my grandpa and dad have a lot of experience working on cars/trucks! So I know they can help a lot with the money.

N8TheGr8, did you get a Cherokee XJ or a Grand Cherokee ZJ? The transmissions behind the 4.0L in ZJs are total trash. But in an XJ they'll last forever if they're kept cool and lubricated.

I changed my oil yesterday when I replaced the O rings on the filter adapter. I used the Rotella 5W40 T6 synthetic stuff. Did I do right ? I noticed a slight increase in il pressure, like maybe 7 or 8 PSI. Normal ?

Sort of. What filter did you spin on? Normally switching to a 5w synthetic from, say, a 10w conventional results in LOWER pressure on startup, but with a less restrictive filter media (or just one with a good bypass valve) you'll get a higher reading since there's more oil going through the filter.
