Trying to see if I can find any proof of this to show the shop. I know a lot of people with mud rig YJs running 12 inch lifts on extended stock driveshafts and haven't ever seen any shred through gears because of pinion angles. Any information is greatly appreciated because regearing is the only thing I haven't done myself on this jeep.
I bet they sent shim right. They may not have set the backlash properly or measured how the pinion was mating.

As you can see, I'm not running anything too extreme. It is off, but it's as close as it's going to get before the SYE.
How long has it been running like that? That looks like the stock driveshaft, in which case your pinion angle IS totally off. It's set corretly for use with an SYE and double-cardan shaft but in "break **** mode" for the factory setup.

Watch:

If you've been running like that for a long time that could definitely cause damage. It sounds like your gear installation might be sub-par to begin with but having the pinion gear slamming into the coat and drive side constantly is NOT doing your axle any favours...

Good catch. Didn't see that was a stock shaft still

Alright thanks so that could definitely cause damage. I guess I'll just get the gears fixed and install sye. It hasn't been driven very much but probably enough to cause some damage. That's as flat as it could go without pulling my driveshaft off.

It'd be way better to spend the money on a reader, find the code and go from there rather than guessing which part could be acting up and replacing it, that gets expensive quick.
At this point I am thinking about picking one up from HF since this has become such a PITA here in California.

Thanks for the reply.

Ha ha, sure. Humble myself.

How about a couple of simple suggestions from someone with past experience with a similar problem? It's obvious this forum has just fallen into the butt-budy system of getting cheap lols on the internet at the expense of members with less than 10,000 posts. It's amazing how the Jeep community is one of the most courteous and helpful groups of people I've ever been involved with, sans this particular forum. Stay on your high horse friend, I'm sure that will work out well for you.

But thanks for the reply and the captain obvious CEL observation. I know that no one in the history of the world has corrected a CEL without first pulling the code, AMIRITE??!?11

I want to be nice to you, but you're making it difficult. How is Syco supposed to know your knowledge base before he suggests something? Do you realize how many new members we get on here who have never held a tool before? Do you understand that most people outside California have no idea that that CEL law exists?

That gear oil looks pretty ruff. Maybe I'll change it soon.

And since there was no more snow... standard jeep testing procedure.

Now I need to make a junkyard run to get a back window that mysteriously shattered

Seeing as I'm going to stay above you. You didn't even post any info about your jeep. We can not read your mind. Renix issues differ from later years. And a stumbling jeep with a cel could be different things. Just like I said to you. You want people to tell you to buy multiple sensors and waste money, then have at it. With that I say good day. And next time try taking the bug out your *** first before you post back. and good luck with your jeep

You need a code reader. There is not many back yard mechanic tests you can do, besides unpluging each sensor and seeing if it makes a difference. If you are planning on working on any car 1996 and newer, do yourself a favor and buy one. A ELM bluetooth code reader can be bought from ebay for less than 20.00. Its difficult diagnosing a vehicle over the internet, get the codes and then get a diagnostic tree, Thats how obd2 works, this forum will aid you with the tree part via common problems/personal experience of the users.

Can anyone tell me how to remove this little ****? The bottom part of the sway bar seems like it's just one piece I tried hammer, pickle fork, and heating it up but none of it works

That ain't just gear oil, that's water emulsified in gear oil. Change it before your bearings give up and/or your diff freezes one of these mornings...

U joint/ball joint press works a mint. Hit it with some PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench Penetrating Oil a day prior.
