You are better off using the correct power steering fluid.

Use the leftovers for drain+fill of the transfer case.

What exactly does drive line vibes sound/feel like?

I have a slight "growl" around 40mph, and can't really tell if it happens any higher because road noise starts to drown it out. It doesn't vibrate at all, but I also have a wobble around 60mph (separate, preexisting issue).

I just lifted the rear about 2.5-3" didn't measure but I'd like to know if I need to throw a case drop on there for now. Or if maybe I just need to grease the slip yoke.

Anything I should think about before installing a rack for a moto on my 99? It's got RE spring pack in the rear so they can handle it. Only going to be going maybe an hour with it at a time, maybe occasionally 2 hours if I go up into the mountains to ride.

Edit: YZ250f so about 300 pounds with rack. I have a Class 3 hitch.

The problem is that the hitch is secured to sheet metal, even if there are nutstrips inside. At 300 pounds of static weight, when hitting a bump that weight can double. I'm not sure what the 'tongue weight limit' would be for the XJ.

Tongue weight limit is 500 pounds for the XJ, I believe.

YZ250Fs are averaging 220 pounds without fuel but with oil. The racks weigh about 45 pounds.

EDIT: Yeah 500 pounds with brand new metal. How much rust ya got? Those hitch mounted baskets are sketchy.

Not very much. A couple spots here and there, but the underside and main chassis all seem to be good. I figure I'd put a nylon tie down loop through the top little runners too so it'll tear my roof off if it all fails. I doubt it'll cause any problems though.

^ I was thinking the same thing about the roof rack. Or run the straps over the roof and hood to hook on front bumper, lol.
Either way, just get the bike as close to the XJ as possible to minimize leverage.

Holy ****! Before you do anything else, take a screwdriver or small hammer and probe the frame for holes. That area of the frame is sandwiched sheet metal so it is almost always worse than you'd hoped.

Mine looked almost exactly like what yours looks like (in the pic anyway). This is what is left after I scraped and brushed:

Not much of left would stand up to sand blasting.

So best of luck to you!

I have a question. When a driveshaft is balanced, do the ujoints have to be removed?

So.. Drill the end of the crack and weld it or throw some 3/16 metal over it? This is by my steering box too
