Possible leak at one of your injectors? Where do you smell the gas mainly? Engine bay? Rear?

 

On mine it will be. Took me damn near 2 months to do my suspension and steering because every bolt was rusted and had to be cut...then again a lot of that 2 months was spent waiting on parts to come in....I'm pretty sure my straps that hold the tank will need replacing....****ing rust

 

Map Vaccum line disconnected? Everytime my map line comes off my throttle body I get the exact same symptons.

 

Smell it at drivers seat mostly.

 

Check where the flexible fuel hoses meet the injector rail/fuel pressure regulator.

Can one go about drilling a hole straight through a hatch strut ball-mounting joint so as to slide it over a stud and 'bolt' it down (loosely, to secure it)?

I'm tired of these struts giving way simply because the ball clip thing is worn out and then you have to pull a ninja move to catch the hatch or else you keep busting your tail-lights out. Especially since that often when the cup is worn out, the shock still works fine.

 

Is there axle side track bar bolt the same size for 84-01 xj? I goofed up one that came out of a 99 so I put one from a 93 on there and tightened it like hell.

I'm going to tighten it some more. The jeep had no death wobble previously and that's the only thing I touched that could have caused it.

Okay, so I'm new to just about anything jeep related.

I'm fresh out of highschool, and through holding some jobs through the years I've saved enough to get myself a car.

So I went out, found myself a 97 cherokee 2WD (it's country, if that makes a difference). 1000$ not too bad. All the tires are bare though, but that's a problem for rainy day.

Needed a couple things, fixed everything up, but I've got some problems still.

The most important problem is..
It's missing one of the fans in the front, and without it when I'm just parked for an extended period of time, the car just shuts off, and then in 15 minutes it starts right up again. It's happened on the road a couple times, mostly when I have the ac on. I did some research, and I found out that I have the Auxiliary fan missing, but when I search auxiliary fan installation, all that really comes up is something about a switch for it, which I know nothing about.

so my question for anyone that wants to help a semi lost teenager is, what fan do I get for it, can i install it on my own? (not taking apart the radiator and everything; do i have to take it to a shop?)

I'm changing the right front ujoint on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. The part that is closest to fitting is part No 371, but it's slightly too long. The c rings are too large. the yoke opening is 55 mm. Can't find a part at any of the part stores except the 371. Do I need to go to the dealership? Any suggestions? Thanks

Aux fan for a '97 can come out of any model year XJ with the 4.0L engine (that has an aux fan). Try the regional forums, the classified section here, or a junkyard. Assuming the previous owner didn't go Butcher Pete on the wiring harness installation is just a matter of screwing the fan in and plugging it in.

Quite the mystery why it was removed and I'd be extremely cautious moving forward - there's no reason to remove it and you might find other messed up components or wiring.

Plain and simple do NOT run the A/C until this is fixed. That fan is very important with the air conditioner running and you are overheating your new Jeep to death.

Does it have the basic gauge cluster with idiot lights or is there a temperature gauge? (not to say it's accurate, but it's a start)

Moog 371 is the correct U joint for that year. Do you have the old U joints still so you can measure the diameter of the bearing caps? Bearing cap diameter is the only variation on any XJ D30.

If the joints have never been done before it can be a little fun getting replacements in. It sounds like you may have bent your yoke ears.

 

Just got my hesco water pump in the mail and the shaft seems tight. Should the shaft free-spin or should there be some resistance?

 

Ganna replace fuel filter, After its all swapped out and there's no more pressure in the fuel line, is there anything special i need to do the first time i start it again or should i be fine?

 

Does it matter if I connect the ground or the computer wire first on the alternator when replacing it? Battery is out but I am a dummy when it comes to electronics.
