Would it be ok to shave one of the 2 forks on a distributor where it bolts into the block? It would still have the angled metal holder that goes on top of that part? Hope this makes since. Only ask since the mechanic can't get it in the exact spot for everything to align up. Maybe a tooth off from being golden
If so, and it's a Rich Porter (RPT) distributor, it may never time in properly. I bought one of these off Ebay and I could not get it timed in. Found the drive gear was installed wrong. Had to send the POS back.
Other rebuilt or new disributors may have the same problem with the drive gear indexing.
There's absolutely no reason to cut, or shave, a fork off to get the distributor to time in. Get a different distributor.

hey guys, I really need some help with a transmission problem i've ran into recently. I bought a 96 xj for $600 and the aw4 in it was shot. I went and got another from a yard but it came out of a 95 and the output shaft was different (23 instead of 21 spline) I was wondering if it would be possible for me to swap the output shaft so I don't have to buy another transfer case for no reason. I'm an engine guy, not a transmission guy so I would need an in depth walk through if anyone has ever done this before.

I was taking parts off the jeep in preparation to do the head swap. I noticed those markings on the lifters.

Is that normal or something wrong?

He cruiser, question. 2.5 wrangler. When put into gear, it doesn't go right away and when it finally goes into reverse or drive, there's a whirring grinding sound. Was thinking TPS at first but not sure how the old 94 YJs were done

I'm more concerned there may be a trans issue.
Can you adjust a throttle valve cable?

I was able to get my friend there to put it in gear while i was under her. Sounds like the TC went. Noise is right at the rear of the engine
