So I was test driving a 88 waggy Friday. Drove nice, in good shape. doing tight circles in gravel in 2wl drive was fine. Put it in 4part time or 4full time or 4 low and take tight turns it gravel and it would pop and look like the wheels would bind. It made the front end walk a little like it was locked up. The rear was doing it too. I had guy jack front end up and wheels spun opposite one another. So usually means open diff. So what would cause this loud popping. bushing and ujoints looked good. I wanted my friend to get this waggy its clean every thing works has factory sunroof that dont leak 3"lift. But whats poppin?

Comanches are a hybrid design. The front is unibody like an XJ, but the rear is boxed with a removable bed. 6 bolts to take it off.

It's an XJ Wagoneer. They were made '84-90.

It was binding because 4WD locks the axle shafts together so the wheels spin at the same rate. You aren't supposed to use it on solid ground because it binds. If you had a 242 TC, you could put it in Full Time 4WD and should be okay, but part time should only be used on surfaces that would allow the inside wheel to spin when turning.

No 4wheel drive doesn't lock axle together, it engages the front. An open axle is open. I was in loose gravel. made me think locker but wheels spun opposite one another like open diff. Also it did it in full and part time 4wheel

Doesnt matter if you have open diffs, the wheels can spin at different speeds side to side, but the cant from front to back like they need to. The front tires are spinning at the same rate as the back tires.

Open diff allows for different wheel speed while turning. My Jeep doesn't act like this in 4wheel

I didn't say it powers both wheels. I said it turns both wheels at the same speed.

Default code p1391...driving me crazier!!

New motor on 2000 grand cherokee in January, before we changed the motor jeep had started sputtering and stalling randomly. Always cranked if it completely died tho. In Dec, I ran it hot, cracked the block thus the new motor. Before that, we had the crank sensor changed, timing was checked, then I blew the motor and now this new motor has ran fine, 1214 miles on it and it starts with the ck engine light, a week later the sputtering stalling...I am soo very frustrated. My hubby is working long hours and dosent have time to look at it right now. Should I go ahead and change the cam sensor or is there something else i should ck out first?????? I love my jeep but this bucking, sputtering is driving me crazier than I already am...PLEASE any ADVICE is appreciated...I have researched this code and it looks to me like its a guessing game as to the problem....Thanks from a mama that stays on the go!!!
