That would surly test the workings of the fan itself and that power is going to it. Now to test if higher coolant temps trips the fan on I would use your procedure. Just tossing out ideas.
E-fan runs with A/C on.

My AC doesn't blow cold (it's just the same as using the normal blowers, not AC), and my e-fan doesn't come on when I switch to AC.

What's most likely to be broken/causing this?

I usually some how manage to quote someone from the first page of a 200 page thread I've never been to.

If you are lacking Freon, get ready for an R-134a conversion. Or...learn to love open windows lol

Yeah, cause you don't open two at a time. I like my manual doors cause I don't have to disconnect anything when I remove them.

This is exactly right. If you have low pressure in your system the aux fan will not run when the ac is switched on.

Isn't freon expensive as hell? My dad owns his own AC business and he mentioned something about a cylinder costing $400 or something crazy like that...

and second, manual windows suck ***. I don't mind it so much unless I have to roll down the passenger window...

Yes that would test the fan working when the ac is switched on. But it's equally as important to make sure the fan comes on when the jeep hits 218deg. If it doesn't come on to cool things down you will have problems. The resistors come in a 5pack and they are like $1.50 really cheap quick easy test for piece of mind.

The little can that it takes to fill a Cherokee costs right at 30 bucks right now.

I remember when the small can's used to cost 4 dollars. Now they're 12 bucks.
