What sized Nut is the lower rear shock (axle stud) mount anybody ?

My old Nut that came off tests for 18mm fine but I cant get anything std sized to come anywhere close to fitting.

I am installing rear shocks and wanna replace with some Grade 8 hardware if possible.

Unbelievably this exact thing has happened to me twice - both times on the passenger side mount. You cannot weld the mount - it has to be bolted. You will need to drill and extract the bolts, or weld a new bolt to the remaining stud to turn it out. Both times i had a shop do it for me - took them about 2 hours labor only. Replace with grade 8 hardware.

 

I believe they are not the same length, and are not interchangeable.

 

Not sure, but grade 8 isn't really necessary for a nut - it's far more important for bolts. The nut's strength is dependent on the capacity of the bolt threads. Just re-use the nut you have if you can't find a new one. It won't make a difference in the least.

 

Thanks Dukie564, but mine is pretty beat up. Grade 5 or Grade 8 I am leary to reuse it. The shoulders on the Nut are beginning to round off.

It took a beating to get it off and I'd really like to replace with a new nut if possible.

According to the Jeep parts manual, it's the same part as the Alternator Bracket mounting STUD. That's what it says when you try to reference the nut and it's size.
The Alternator mounting STUD, .375-16x3.750 and the accompanying Flange Head NUT is, .375-16.

Is the .375 or 375 thousandth's some metric to standard conversion number or something ?

Any idea what sized nut that is ? I am trying to locate the NUT at Lowes.
They have Flange Head Nuts there....wanna replace with good hardware.

.375 is 3/8"

You need a 3/8" I.D. nut with a #16 thread pitch (course thread) according to your information. I cannot confirm this is correct though.

 

Where is the location of The wiper motor fuse or rather relay in a 1993 jeep cherokee sport? I have heard they run about 160.00 for the relay

 

no fuse - there is a round circuit breaker in the fuse panel. The intermittent relay is indeed expensive. What is the issue you are having? I would look into grabbing replacements for these from a junkyard instead.

 

Yes, thank you for answering so quickly, I have a self contained unit with 4-5 prngs on it that i did get from pick a part. I Know i should remember the location of the relay but when trying to install the small square 4-5 pronge unit....it doesnt seem to fit where i forgot it to be. LOL, drivers side panel near top left or top right location.

 

i ended up with either 4" or 6" lift front coils, do i need control arms to use them or can i put them on with stock control arms till i have the money to get aftermarket ones

 

2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo stars for 2 to 3 seconds and then shuts off

 

Driving it with the front end binding up broke the gears and the ends of the axles.

 

i have a 98 sport and i was wandering how to get the water for the back windshield water to work i push the button and the wiper works just no water. is the pump gone?

no i dont hear anything pumping. would the fuse be in the kick panel
