cool thanks for the reply
The ones im seeing are a bit spendy. Would this one be a direct swap? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JEEP-...8#ht_500wt_956
on a side note, I think somewhere on the jeep it says it has select track. Will that matter?

If this is what you have it's a totally different animal, and a swap for a different one is going to be much more complicated i believe. I might look into getting it rebuilt by a shop if I were you.
How do you know it is "blown"? What are the symptoms? These TCs are vacuum operated so that may be the problem, not the TC. Let's troubleshoot it before you go spending $400+ to find another one. They are difficult to find.

On a continuing quest to bring my Cherokee back up to full functionality;
Vehicle: 1996 Jeep Cherokee In-line 6, 4.0 HO
Symptom:
Heater inoperable, no fans, no heat, nothing. Not even defrost.
What I've already done;
I've replaced the thermostat and that gave me defroster, and I can hear the heater core/fan working behind the dash. But I can't get the heat to come through my vents. (the vents work, on well.. "VENT", but not heat)
I suspect the "heater flap" doesn't work (or is stuck on cold if it's a mixer), but one major problem with investigating-
I don't know what the heck I'm looking for. I'm still learning, and as of right now, rather auto-ignorant, I don't know what the flap looks like, and only have a vague idea where to look. I can't find any pictures of what this would look like..
Considering its 20 degrees out.. I'd prefer not to wait 20 minutes for my engine to heat up enough to use hot vent.. which barely works anymore anyways.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated

Secondly, your "blend door" is what changes the air flow, and is vacuum operated. You probably have a leak in one of the control lines that needs to be found and fixed.

Okies
1st: Yes, hot air comes out when it is on defrost (and is currently what is heating my car slowly)
2nd: My more mechanically inclined step-father-in-law says it might be the vacuum tube as well. Where would I look for that? (and what would I have to do to replace/repair it?
And again, thank you for your advice and knowledge!

Gotta keep trying - i don't know of any other way to unlock that cylinder. Try another key, or if you don't have one get another made at the dealership (need your VIN, title, and photo ID)

Hi guys, I'm re-doing an '86 cherokee with a 3.4 V6/ s-10 TBI/ AX5. It's in pretty good shape just had a blown 2.8. In looking ahead on the build up, I traded a parts vehicle for an AX15/231 out of a '96. Is it reasonable to swap up with this trans or would an earlier AX15 work better or wait and use it elsewhere? I looked for a couple of days for swap info and came up short. Thanks for a great forum.
