XJ Ask the Question Thread
I'd still check all of those parts, you'd be surprised what can go bad in a year.
What you describe sounds exactly like death wobble, and you don't always feel it in the steering wheel.

Alright well that is true. And death wobble is wear it shakes violently due to the axle not being centered or steering components worn, something like that right? And yes the pitman arm tie rod is brand new, just replaced it, and I my track bar has no play in it.Pretty much the only old steering component thats on it is the steering dampener and the draglink. And yeah sorry I do feel it in the steering wheel but it doesn't wander. If anything it feels more driveline vibration, then anything.
haha and after owning a xj, nothing surprises me.

Drive angles are right, however I am not sure about the driveshaft balance. I thought about that and checked it for missing weights, the little weight was still on there, and i saw no dents in the shaft its self. There was a spot that was rubbing on my flowmaster but it wasnt too bad. Other then that I'm not sure about how to check for it being balance other then taking it too some shop.
okay im just looking for a straight up answer here, what is the cheapest way to get a 3-4 inch lift. (cant afford new shocks right now). and what is the best (and cheapest) place to get aftermarket parts for a cherokee. just bought a 01 cherokee sport

save your sawbucks and get a good kit with good quality parts. I know evryone wants to spend the least amount of dollars for a given item but you get what you pay for. A little research and search function will give you the answers you desire. Don't go cheap the safety of the public is far more important than you saving ten or twenty bucks.
Hi – I am new to this forum and have been searching to find the answer to my current issue. I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee classic and I am unable to get the defroster to properly blow across the windshield. Turn the fan up and it stops blowing across the windshield and makes noise in the dash. I have located that there is a wicked vacuum leak in the heater/defroster controls. It appears that the problem is in the vacuum circuit that controls the defroster door. I have taken the dash apart enough to get to the defroster duct. I can get my hand in past the foam to feel the defroster control door. It has no resistance to closing when in the defrost position. The fan will push it closed. With the controls in the defrost position there is no vacuum leak. The leak shows when the controller is in the non defrost position, this indicates to me that there is either a bad motor or a broken vacuum line in the dash. I think the next thing I need to do is pull the whole dash. The instructions in the TSM look reasonable except for having to disassemble the steering column to get it out of the way. There is a lot to take apart and be careful of as I have auto trans, cruise control, Tilt and air bag.
My question s are: Do I really need to disassemble the steering column or is there something simpler ? Is there a good post that goes over the disassembly in more detail than the TSM? I found the nice post on the early dash removal but it does not have what I am looking for. Thanks for any hints you can provide.

If you can afford the Jeep, you can afford the lift. $500 gets you a crappy 3" at best. Just budget it and do it in stages.
I’m new to this forum, but based on other recent posts by dukie564 and 1998BlueBullet. I would say that the rear axle in the picture is an 8.25. This is based on the flat at the bottom of the axel housing and the limited amount if bump out for the ring gear in the cover. The D35 has more bump out in the cover than what appears to be in your picture.
