I have a 1989 jeep Cherokee 4x4 and i lost my driver side window. Its the middle passenger seat window on the driver side. I want to replace the window but not to hire someone to do it cause its an extra 100. I know how to do it myself so all i need is the window itself. I need to know a few things. First I NEED to know if i could go and just get a jeep getting parted out and by that i need to know what years will fit my window. Second if anyone knows any websites that would have this window. Ive out up a post up three times about this subject and still really haven't gotten anything please help me thanks.

You might check the part #'s at someplace like rockauto and see if they match?
Also sometimes on ebay sellers will list which models their part will fit. (ie, "fits all Cherokee and grand...")

glass parts are not interchangeable between an XJ and a GC. Your going to want to look for an 84-96 in the junkyard. If you do decide to do it yourself, be very careful, IIRC on the older ones the glass is held onto the regulator with rivets, and if not removed carefully the glass will shatter. Also, make sure you wear gloves when putting in the new glass, as there is a possibility of the glass shattering as your holding it when your trying to get it in the door.
Honestly, Id just call an auto glass company and have them deal with it, those rivets are no fun without the proper tools. Also, depending on your insurance coverage, might be a no cost. (i personally have a 0$ glass deductable in case i hit a tree branch while wheeling)

The only thing that changed in 1997 was that they offered an option that included a solar coating on the glass. This is an invisible additive to the glass to reduce heat inside the vehicle. The glass is the same shape and size for every year including up to 2001. So any year will fit into your truck.
x2 on what rabblerouser said. I have been in this glass business since 1985 and rivets can be a pain without the knowledge and proper tools. I would check with a local shop and get a price and also see how much they would charge to install if you brought them a glass. Might save you some $ that way.
I dont see any reason why you cant get it fixed with new for around $150 or less.

I trust you guys know what's up...just a little confused. That dog there <, and a Pit with a head the size of a basket ball, (Taz was his name") "got into it". One was in, one was out, and that same window was down 6" or so. The window didn't last 10 seconds! (fortunately the Pit was trained well enough, let me throw him out, still attacking/biting my dog!)
So there was a donor Jeep right there on the property where the party was. I had tools so I just changed it. Don't remember it being a big issue. WAS a little toasted. Maybe mechanical is easier than electric? Maybe I just got lucky?

I'm sure the folx above know what they are talking about...Idk, was on my 84 about 15 years ago. I just don't remember dealing with rivets, would think I would. Maybe I was able to turn the whole thing sideways in there and slide it out?
Guess there is no harm in giving it a shot as long as you don't brake anything.

Like I said, i really don't remember well. I do know I got'r done is about it! (and the old one was shattered). Yea, he was something to see! (kind of funny looking).
Added: I guess a used/jy window would be easier to install if a new one comes plain, without the rail.
